1 Kings 17:1-24

Naturalism = the only things that exist are found in nature. A lot of the world believes in naturalism.

As Christians, we need to believe in the supernatural reality of our world.

1 Kings 17:1-6–We are introduced to Elijah. He was one of the most well-known and powerful prophets. (See Malachi 4:5; Matthew 11:14; 17:3; Revelation 11:3.)

Elijah confronts Ahab’s spiritual apostasy. Ahab had thrown truth out the window.

Ahab and his wife Jezebel worship Baal, said to control the rain. Yet Elijah declares it will not rain until he says so (not Baal).

God took care of Elijah during the drought by having ravens bring him food. This was a supernatural miracle.

1 Kings 17:7-24–Eventually the brook where Elijah got his water dried up. Sometimes our “brooks” dry up, too. That means the Lord is taking you somewhere else.

The widow lived in Sidon, where they worshipped Baal. (Note, Elijah wasn’t sent to an Israelite widow but to a pagan one.)

The widow’s flour and oil didn’t run out, and continued to feed her, her son, and Elijah. This was a supernatural miracle.

It’s not hard for God to do these supernatural things.

Later, the widow’s son dies. Elijah prays and the boy comes back to life. A boy is resurrected. This is another supernatural miracle.

The same God who raised His own Son from the grave did all of these things–and He can do even more.

When you need Him, He’s there.

Pray for the power to proclaim Christ.
