What We Can Learn From Angels (Pt 6)

Revelation 19:9-10

There is a real spiritual battle going on in our hearts.

Last week we talked about how we aren’t alone in those battles. This week, we’ll learn that the battle never ends. (“It’s always something.”)

Revelation 19:6-8 — sets the scene for verses 9-10. Song of victory and worship.

There are no spiritual battles in heaven.

One way we know the Bible is true is because it doesn’t hide the sins of God’s people. Noah got drunk. David committed adultery. Moses murdered someone. God’s people aren’t perfect.

Here, in Revelation 19:9-10, we see John blow it by trying to worship an angel.

If John–who knew Jesus so intimately and witnessed His death and resurrection–blew it, we can blow it in some way, too. It’s a sobering thought.

Paul told Timothy to watch his doctrine and watch his heart/morals.

No one really wants to fall away from the Lord. Yet we still do.

The angel tells John not to worship him, but to worship only God. The angel corrects him.

A created being is not to be worshiped. Only God is to be worshiped.

Angel worship had infiltrated the church (which we see in the letter to the Hebrews). The Greeks thought the flesh was evil but spirit was good.

We can know God through Jesus.

We can fall doctrinally or morally from the Lord. Why? Because we give our hearts to emotion rather than truth.

John’s emotion got the best of him. And it serves as a warning to us.

John was an old man by this time. He had been a faithful witness to Jesus.

Watch your doctrine and watch your moral life. The devil would love to destroy you.

The battle isn’t over until heaven.

Ephesians 6:12–Our enemy is spiritual.

Light triumphs over darkness, and truth triumphs over emotion.

Don’t let your guard down. Remain faithful.

Our defense is the Word of God, the sword of the Spirit. We can make it through the battle.
