A Dialogue About the Decalogue (Pt 2)

The Ten Commandments are pretty well-known by Christians and non-Christians alike, but what do they mean and why did God give them to us?

Exodus 20:1-17

The first four commandments are about your relationship with God; the last six are about your relationship with others.

The fifth commandment comes with a promise (long life).

If you aren’t honoring your parents, you probably will struggle with the last five commandments which include respect for others.

Summary of the last six commandments: love and obey your parents and you will learn how to love and respect others.

In the law of Moses, you have the moral law and you also have the sacrificial law.

The Ten Commandments were given so that we realize how short we fall.

Galatians 3:24–The law was given so that you could see and take care of your sin (through sacrifice).

Hebrews 10:1-3–Animal sacrifice was not final; they had to be repeated year after year.

Jesus’s death takes care of all our sin; we need to remember the cross every day.

The grace of God is placed on you when you receive Jesus Christ.

Make Jesus Lord over your life every single day.

Romans 8:1-2–We have no condemnation.
