In the weeks leading up to Easter, we’ll look at how Jesus is our eternal King, how He fulfills the prophecies in the Old Testament, and how He will reign forever.
Matthew 1:1–Matthew was a tax collector. He was used to taking good notes and records, and in this verse, he refers to some promises about Jesus and that they were fulfilled.
“Son of David” = kingship always with David’s line.
“Son of Abraham” = all nations will be blessed through Abraham’s seed.
Matthew 12:22-28–The people saw the miracle and asked if this was the Son of David, the Messiah. Meanwhile the religious people accused Jesus of using the power of the devil.
“When people don’t want to believe, they will find a reason not to.”
Matthew 15:21-28–The Gentile woman wasn’t from the house of Israel, but she recognized Jesus as the Messiah. She knew the promises of God, and she had “great faith.”
Mark 10:45-52–Bartimaeus referred to Jesus as the Son of David. He may have been blind physically, but he wasn’t blind spiritually. His faith was in the Messiah. He recognized Jesus for who He was.
John 7:42-44–There were some people who didn’t recognize Jesus, but who knew what the Scripture said.
Mark 12:35-37–Jesus was pointing out that David’s offspring would be the Lord, the Messiah.
Testimony is a powerful thing. People were healed by Jesus because they believed He was the Messiah, the Son of David.
2 Timothy 2:8–Paul taught the Gospel, that Jesus is the Son of David and our eternal King.
