For When the Honeymoon is Over

Sunday, January 12, 2025 | Pastor Lee Compson

As we celebrate the dedication of a new pastor, we all must commit to loving one another and doing good whenever we have the opportunity–even if (when) it gets hard.

1 Thessalonians 3:12-13; Galatians 6:9-10

Acts 17–Paul chased out by the church he helped create.

Paul’s letter–report of the Thessalonians and their walk in faith, an offering of praise and desire for the church.

Grow in love–may it increase and overflow, strengthen our hearts.

We should be defined by love not just for our family of believers but also for others–outreach and service projects for the community defined by love, not by obligation (1 Thessalonians 3:12-13).

Sanctification–grow to be more holy, to become more like Christ in character and in their lives.

When the honeymoon is over, we must still commit to the teachings of Paul and continue to do good works.

Serve with patience, don’t grow weary in doing good; God will bring about results (Galatians 6:9-10).

God may not give us the instant gratification results, but we must stay diligent as something greater is coming.

Doing what God has called us to do: continuing to serve everybody, love everybody, and to have patience.

Work in partnership with the pastor; do not leave it all to him.
