Matthew 8:5-13
This story is the only recorded exchange between Jesus and the military.
The centurion had great faith. How can we have a faith like that?
In a moment when it mattered most, he took the leap of faith.
The centurion was ashamed and knew he was not worthy to have Jesus in his home.
Shame can make a person feel unworthy, which is never true.
1 John 1:9–He will forgive our sin.
Acts 10–Cornelius is another centurion, but he invited Peter into his home without shame.
Both centurions had great faith.
Faith is the necessary ingredient for salvation.
Many people thought they would enter heaven through their lineage or the works they did, but it was not true.
God expanded His kingdom to include the Gentiles.
Ephesians 2:8-9–We are saved through faith.
The centurion had a great need, he was desperate for God’s intervention, he understood God’s full capacity of power, and he didn’t allow his feelings of unworthiness to stop him from asking for help.
Believe that God has authority over all things.
Believe that God loves you no matter what you have done or who you are.
