John 14:21-24
The proof of our love is in our obedience.
We become defensive when we are asked to obey; we don’t like authority.
Obedience: someone has control over us, removing our free will.
Obedience in Hebrews means “to hear.”
1 John 2:3-6, 5:2-3
To gain a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, we begin with obedience.
We need to be reading God’s Word consistently to know His commands.
There are two views: worldview and God’s view.
The world says it’s okay to cheat, steal, and lie.
You can’t obey something you don’t know; we must commit to daily study of God’s Word.
God does not expect perfection; we lean on grace and mercy.
John 17:6–Jesus defended them even though they failed.
The truth about the Christian: deep down in his heart, there is a steady yearning to do the will of God, but no Christian fully realizes this desire.
What happens when we disobey God?
– We are like Adam and Eve.
– We fail to trust God’s wisdom.
– We are saying, “We know better than you, God.”
– We end up miserable and mixed up.
What hinders our obedience? Fear, unbelief, mistrust, desires.
Obedience is connected to trust and respect; you believe His way is right.
