So many people today seek guidance.
Proverbs 12:15–A wise man listens to advice.
Proverbs 13:10, 15:22
God is the best counselor, but sometimes He is the last one we call on.
Why should we seek Jesus?
(1) He knows all about you and your past.
(2) He knows the needs of your heart.
(3) He knows how to answer your needs.
He gives wise counsel to those who listen and obey.
Obedience is the instrument of revelation.
John 14:21, 23–Jesus shows Himself to those who obey Him; He loves those who obey Him.
We want answers but aren’t always prepared to obey Him.
Four choices of receiving counsel:
(1) Jesus’ counsel–Christ has power and wisdom, Christ has wisdom and knowledge, He is wonderful in counsel
(2) The world’s counsel–the philosophy of this age (it’s about you!)
(3) The flesh’s counsel–the easy way out
(4) Satan’s counsel–whispers lies and causes doubt
A few warnings:
(1) “I just have to think it through.”
(2) “I will follow my heart.” — don’t do this! The heart is deceitful.
(3) We do not have what it takes to lead our lives.
(4) Jeremiah 10:23–A man’s life is not his own.
(5) Psalm 27:3–He makes our steps firm.
How do we proceed?
Follow the Word. (Psalm 119:105, 130)
Follow the Holy Spirit. (John 14:16)
Daily repentance, daily faith, daily prayer.
